La franche ironie, cet "humour viril et sain" que Jasmin avait apprécié des 1966 dans l'art de Serge Lemonde, constitue, encore aujourd'hui, une de ses forces majeures. Le passage au photoréalisme n'a en fait qu'amplifié son impact et sa richesse. Lemonde peut regarder le futur droit dans les yeux.»


«One issue raised by Lemonde's extended blast from the past is just how fickle taste can be. Like the paintings, with their play on context, foreground and background, the show itself must be seen in today's context. Surprisingly, to see Lemonde's painted world, apparently intentionally anachronic, is to get a brand new perspective on both our current selves and the way we were. In his way, Lemonde probes the inner space of the collective unconscious, finding that it is as littered with cliché as external reality. The final question is, of course, what's real and what's not? This unusual exibit is well worth the trip.»
